From Elyria, pick up I-90 East. Stay on it through North Ridgeville and Avon, then take the Columbia Road exit, State Route 252, in Westlake. Head south on Columbia Road to Lorain Road and turn east. Lorain Road runs you east through North Olmsted to 19389 Lorain Rd, Fairview Park, OH 44126. Allow about 25 minutes in normal traffic.
Major Roads and Intersections
The roads that matter on this trip are short in number. From the north and west side of Elyria, State Route 57 puts you on I-90 quickly. From the downtown and east side, Cleveland Street and Lorain Boulevard feed the same interchange. After that it is I-90 East for most of the distance, then Columbia Road, State Route 252, south to Lorain Road. The last stretch is Lorain Road heading east through North Olmsted. If I-90 is backed up, Detroit Road, State Route 254, runs parallel and meets Columbia Road as well.
Landmarks Along the Way
Crocker Park in Westlake sits just off I-90 on the north side and is the sign that your exit is close. Once you are on Lorain Road you pass the Great Northern retail area in North Olmsted. From there it is a straight run east on Lorain Road into Fairview Park. If you are using the Detroit Road route instead, you cross the Rocky River valley before turning south.

Kitchen remodeling in Elyria
What Elyria kitchens are usually working against
Elyria housing is mixed, and the kitchen tells you which part of town you are standing in. On the streets around Ely Square and along West River Road, the kitchen was built as a closed service room at the back of the house. One door, one window, and a footprint that often stops near 100 square feet.
Move out toward Route 57 and the newer streets and the problem flips. Those kitchens are wider and open to a family room, but the cabinet run is short and the island is either missing or too small to actually work at.
Both versions arrive at our showroom for the same reason. There is nowhere to put anything. The upper cabinets stop a foot short of the ceiling, the corner cabinet swallows whatever goes into it, and the pantry is a coat closet with shelves screwed inside.
Storage is also why so many Elyria remodels start with a measurement rather than a mood board. Once you know what has to fit, the layout gets a lot easier to argue about.
What we change in an Elyria kitchen
The three changes that do the most work
The first is usually a wall. In the older Elyria homes, taking down the partition between the kitchen and the dining room does more for the room than any cabinet upgrade. It gives you a second work side and lets light from the front of the house reach the sink.
The second is vertical space. Cabinets that run to the ceiling add a full shelf per run without costing a single inch of floor. Deep drawers replace base cabinets with doors, so you stop kneeling on the tile to find a pot.
The third is the traffic line. Most Elyria kitchens have people cutting through them to reach the back door or the basement stairs. The layout has to keep that path clear of the oven door and the dishwasher door, or the room fights you every single day.
On resale, buyers looking in Elyria are usually comparing houses of a similar age and size. The kitchen is often the room that separates two otherwise similar listings, which is worth knowing before you decide how far to take a project.
Planning a kitchen project in Elyria
Sorting the practical things out first
Permits go through the City of Elyria building department. Anything structural, electrical or plumbing needs one, and that includes moving a sink or opening a wall. We prepare the drawings the department asks for, and you confirm current requirements with the city before you set a start date.
Plan a temporary kitchen somewhere else in the house. Most Elyria homes have a basement or a garage that will take a folding table, the microwave and the coffee maker. Setting that up before demolition day is the difference between an inconvenient project and a miserable one.
Measure the path in. Older Elyria homes with a tight side door and a turn at the bottom of the stairs limit how big a single cabinet or a stone slab can be. We check that during the site visit so nothing gets discovered on install day.
